South East London Orchestra – Sunday 21 May 2017, 4pm

15th February 2017 by James

On Sunday 21 May, St Barnabas welcomes South East London Orchestra for its latest concert.

This is a concert for everyone, featuring some very accessible pieces of orchestral music which tell wonderful stories through melody – a great programme for children and for those who are less familiar with classical music.

SELO is really keen to encourage young people to appreciate music as much as its members have all done throughout our studies, and to encourage them to have an understanding of musical instruments and the fun that’s involved in making the sounds which combine to form an orchestra.  So the programme is chosen with this in mind:

Prokofiev:  Peter and the Wolf
Grieg: Peer Gynt Suite No. 1
Mussorgsky:  A Night on the Bare Mountain
Humperdinck:   Hansel and Gretel Overture
Smetana:  The Bartered Bride Overture

SELO would love to see both younger and older children who would be interested to sit and listen to an orchestral concert (primary school age and above would be best, as it will be a “normal” concert environment and not designed as a participating event for babies or very young children).

Tickets on the door at £10 and £8 concessions, or via the following link: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/

Entry for children under 16 is free.

The interval is always a sociable event – tea and homemade cakes will be available as ever.

seloSt Barnabas is as pleased as ever to welcome back for your entertainment, the now well established South East London Orchestra.

Performing for their fans, members of the locality and you, their early summer concert will enchant you with Mendelssohn’s A Midnight Summer’s Dream Overture. If that were not enough, ‘SELO’ will perform Rodrigo’s acclaimed Concierto de Aranjuez for the first time at St. Barnabas, topping off an afternoon you’ll want to remember with Beethoven’s Fourth.

We hope you can join us for this afternoon with some of our most regular performers.

Tickets £10 (£8 concessions, free for under 16s) on the door. For more information, please call 020 8650 3393
